When Manju Thapa found a cyst under her throat, she had no inkling of the turmoil that was brewing. The cyst turned out to be cancerous. The diagnosis hit her like a tidal wave, crashing her emotions into a flood of tears as she struggled to comprehend how cancer had snuck into her life.
Seeking solace, she instinctively reached out to her husband, her confidant. But his phone remained switched off during his football tour in Nepal. “I turned to God, crying that I was all alone in this,” she said tearfully, recalling the feeling of rejection. In her darkest hour, she turned to her faith, seeking refuge in prayer. With tear-stained cheeks, she cried out to God, asking Him for strength and healing. Through her pain, she found solace and acceptance in the words of Psalm 31, where the promise of God’s unwavering support and deliverance echoed loudly in her heart.
Often, in the excruciating pain of the diagnosis, instead of trusting God, she leaned on people only. She sought peace and comfort from them but soon remembered that God is the Prince of peace and turned to the comforting words of the Bible again, where she found true acceptance. “Lord, I am your daughter, and I have three little daughters. I have to live for them. I have heard that cancer does not get better. But with you, Lord, nothing is impossible. I denounce the cancer.” Manju remembered praying this fervently.
As the day of her operation approached, Manju clung to the assurance of divine intervention. With a heart strengthened by faith, she entered the operating theater, trusting in the hands of both the surgeons and her Savior. Following the successful operation, the doctors recommended isolation for a few days after radiotherapy. “I was concerned about this because I had never stayed alone for such a long time,” she said. She armed herself with her Bible and entered the sterile, white room. She immersed herself in scripture for comfort and guidance. Manju found herself drawing parallels with the story of Daniel in the lion’s den. Just as God had protected Daniel amidst danger, she pleaded for divine intervention to shield her from the unseen dangers of cancer. Amidst the loneliness and uncertainty, Manju felt the tangible presence of God, enveloping her with His love and peace.
When the scans finally showed no trace of cancer, Manju’s heart overflowed with gratitude and praise. Through her journey from despair to healing, rejection to acceptance, she emerged as a living testament to God’s faithfulness and grace. She chooses to proclaim her testimony to all those who struggle with rejection and loneliness.
