“I lost both my parents at a very young age. I didn’t know what was to become of my life after that. I had no support.” Seema Powar lost her father to tuberculosis and her mother struggled with her mental health. Seema was often advised to keep a distance from her mother due to her mother’s turbulent moods. One morning, when Seema returned from a relative’s house, she found her mother had passed away.
Seema’s brothers returned from hostel to Jharkhand, to help bury their mother. Slowly it dawned on Seema that she was left alone, without support and without hope. She left with her brothers to stay at the hostel, where she spent countless nights crying in the shadows. One Sunday, she was approached by the people in the church who asked if she wanted to move to Faridabad, Delhi to get a good education. Seema made the brave decision of moving to an unknown city, into an unknown family who had offered to take care of her.
Seema was surprised to see the way she was treated by this family who went all out to accept and welcome her. In one fell swoop, Seema gained not only a mother and father, but loving siblings who reached out to her with love and care! “Adjusting with my new family was easier than I expected. They shared everything with me, and made sure I was treated equally in every way – from the clothes they bought to the trips they went on.”
Her father, being a pastor, helped Seema grow in her faith and proudly recognised her leadership qualities that helped the church grow in turn! “When my parents died, I never thought that God would give me a family. But God blessed me with a family I could never even imagine existed!” Seema said with a big smile and tearful eyes. Seema adoptive parents continue to love her and encourage her to grow in Christ, united as a family that God, himself brought about.
