BACK FROM THE DEAD, LITERALLY!

In June 2010, Dr M Aier was flown to a hospital in Delhi from Kohima where was attending the Deputy Commissioner’s conference. He had suffered a massive heart attack. He remembers thinking, “I will be ok because I’m being treated by the Chief Cardiologist of India.”

With this faith and certainty in his doctors, Dr Aier, Former Principal Secretary, IAS to Government of Nagaland, did not anticipate what came next. The very next day, he suffered another severe heart attack that caused his lungs and heart to start failing.

Family and friends in Dimapur, Nagaland and Delhi were immediately alerted about Dr Aier’s deteriorating condition. They even began preparing for his funeral service as the situation was too dire to have any hope.

Just a few minutes before being rolled into the operation theatre, even in his then fragile state, he remembers seeing his eldest son, “as soon as I saw my son, tears rolled down my cheeks. I felt so sorry for him. I started weeping.” With all the remaining strength Dr Aier had left in him, he cried out to God, “Oh Lord, have mercy on me! Oh Lord have mercy on me!” That was his last prayer.

An intensive surgery for this critical case was done by a team of seven doctors who tried everything in their power to revive their patient, including electrifying him. Despite all this, Dr Aier was declared clinically dead.

After forty-eight hours of being unconscious and in a coma, an unusual thing happened. Dr Aier recalls, “A song rang into my ear so beautifully.” The song was ‘I know a man who can, His name is Jesus’. Then the unthinkable happened. Dr Aier recounts, “this song rang in my ear so clearly that it woke me up!”

The minute he woke up, he called out to the man guarding his room to give him a phone to phone his wife. “But this man was taken aback and was saying – you’re supposed to be dead! You’re not supposed to be speaking to me!”, Dr Aier remembers, smiling.

Unfortunately, the person who was admitted right next to Dr Aier died just around the same time. Even though he had a simpler case, with only 50% blockage in his heart, he passed away. His family approached Dr Aier, shocked to see him back from the dead. They were devastated and confused as to how someone with such a complicated case could have survived. Dr Aier’s wife handed them her only Bible and told them that it was only because of the Lord’s mercy.

The miracle of Dr Aier doesn’t end here. Its awe-inspiring ripples continued. Upon seeing Dr Aier’s restoration and revival, two people committed themselves to the Lord. The son of the man who died in the same hospital as Dr Aier read the Bible and accepted the Lord saying, “from today, although my father is no more, I will also worship the Heavenly Father who has healed you.” An Army  Captain in Delhi was also inspired by this incredible miracle! Dr Ashok Seth and Dr Vijay Seth, the treating doctors, also admitted that though it was a terrible night, Dr Aier was saved miraculously by the mercy and power of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

“God has, in his divine mercy, healed me and given me my second life, and this is definitely with a purpose to serve the Lord, worship Him and testify about His goodness”, Dr Aier believes. He proclaims that this miracle was done to glorify Jesus, and he proudly says, “And I’ll not be silent but praise Him and testify for the Lord forever till my last breath.”
