Within the four walls of jail that kept the darkness and dread tightly packed in, Henry accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour. “Lord, you saved me so I could glorify your name, so in your appointed time, have me released,” he prayed.
Henry Kilon was abandoned by his mother at the age of three. Confused and betrayed, he and his ten-month-old sister only had their father to turn to. Their alcoholic father. Thankfully, their aunt came to the rescue and took them in. Even though Henry was raised with the fear of the Lord, he turned to the ways of the world as he grew. Bad company and drifting away from God, led him down a dark spiralling road, and soon, gambling and drugs became a part of his lifestyle.
As Henry continued to spiral downwards, he turned to extorting people – threatening them, and even beating them up. Losing his wife, and mother of his two children, didn’t help his situation. He just kept spinning down this dark hole of addiction. One day as he set out to find more people to extort, he got beaten up by a mob, and landed up in jail. This was his rock bottom. Henry reached out to his friends and family but got no response. Everyone had turned their backs to him. “I had never been kind to my family.”
From the depths of desperation, Henry cried out to God in prayer. On the third day of being in prison, a pastor who was preaching God’s word in the lock up came to Henry and said, “Jesus loves you.”
“I was so touched. I was so moved that when the world had rejected me, Jesus had not. He sent his messenger to tell me that he loves me,” Henry recalled, feeling the stirring emotions once again. “That’s when I accepted Christ as my Lord,” he added. Once God answered Henry’s prayer and had him released from jail, he asked God to send the right person into his life. God sent Dr Ronald Lotha.
“I was never kind to people, and I don’t think I ever deserved all the kindness and support I have received, but God is gracious.” In a single meeting with Dr Lotha, Henry began to receive the help he so desperately needed. Over the years, Dr Lotha’s kindness wasn’t limited to Henry, but it extended to Henry’s children. From paying for Henry’s personal growth to financing his children’s education, Dr Lotha’s kindness completely transformed Henry’s life. So much so that the house they live in today is a blessing from Dr Lotha. “I want to thank God for this wonderful life he as blessed me with. His kindness has brought me this far.”
