For 7 to 10 minutes, Gaisin was dead. No pulse, no heartbeat. His family cried and prayed, fearing they had lost him forever. But against all odds, his heart started beating again. He woke up in a hospital bed, unaware that he had been brought back from the brink.
Born in the Tamenglong district of Manipur, Gaisin’s childhood was marked by tragedy. His father passed away when he was young, and though he was raised by his grandparents and aunt, there was always a void in his heart. After moving to Shillong for higher studies, that emptiness consumed him. Drugs, alcohol, and smoking became his way of coping, slowly pulling him into a destructive spiral. Despite knowing the harm, Gaisin continued, his addiction taking a toll on his health. His liver gave in, and he was hospitalized with jaundice.
His family, fully aware of his struggles, tried to intervene. “They tried to talk me out of it, but it didn’t make a difference to me at all,” he recalls. But Gaisin was too far gone to care—until one fateful night in January 2016. Drunk and quarrelsome, he was approached by his cousin, a man Gaisin respected deeply. “Instead of scolding me, he just consoled me, comforted me with good words,” Gaisin remembers. “He said I should not be doing this and I needed to change. When he said all those nice words to me I felt so ashamed of myself, the things that I’ve been doing, so at that point I just felt like my presence, my life was just meaningless.”
That night, in despair, he attempted suicide.
But God had other plans. When Gaisin miraculously survived, he knew there was a reason. “I should have been dead long ago,” he thought. “Even after hanging myself and being dead for about 10 minutes, God still brought me back. So there must be a reason for that.” He decided to devote himself to God, believing that only through faith could he find true purpose. He enrolled in theology school, telling his family and pastors, “I want to serve Him, and in order to serve Him, I need to know about Him.”
During his first year, he learned what it meant to believe in Jesus Christ. By the end of that year, Gaisin accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, never looking back.
Today, Gaisin encourages others to never give up. He is living proof that no matter how lost one might feel, it’s never too late. “More prayer, more power,” he says, reminding families that persistent prayer can lead to miracles, and most importantly, God never gives up on us.
