Committing crimes came naturally in order to support his daily habit of drugs and alcohol. Korbor Khuvung was once a studious boy, but fell into the trap of peer pressure in high school. Robbing, threatening, and extorting people for a little money to satiate his needs became a regular occurrence. Landing up in jail a few times was a natural by-product of his actions.
“I was not in the right frame of mind. I couldn’t think properly. I couldn’t think straight,” Korbor said remembering the traumatising suicidal thoughts he would have. Running away from home after fighting with his parents left him in a much darker place. He blamed himself for all of his failures. Eventually, his parents came to his rescue and helped him check into a rehabilitation centre called Wisdom Centre.
God’s hand was upon Korbor since as soon as he joined Wisdom Centre, there was a revival meeting. “Lord, if you are there, alive for me, then yes, tonight is the night, for I am not able to do anything on my own,” Korbor remembers calling out to God in desperation. Just as he’d cried out to God, Korbor felt an immediate shift in himself, “the power of God was like an electric current flowing through my body. Right from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet.” Korbor smiles as he describes how the power of God ‘electrified him’ and lifted the burden from his mind, body and soul in a split-second! “I have this joy in me now!” he says beaming from ear to ear.
With no more addiction, craving or suffering, Korbor proclaims that God turned his mess into a masterpiece! Being absolutely renewed and refreshed from within, Korbor was ready to be used as an instrument in God’s great plan. His testimony inspired the people around him in the rehabilitation centre; and others outside when he left.
His hunger to know more about Jesus led him to a short-term Bible school and then into ministry. He travelled across India and all the way to Nepal to testify of God’s greatness in his life. Korbor gladly shares his experience of being carried from the pit to the pulpit by God’s love. Through the ‘Breakthrough Ministry’ Korbor reaches out to drug and alcohol addicts and has helped many to be saved from ruin. With the words of Deuteronomy 20:4 he wants to encourage each individual he meets to believe that there is a way, no matter what giants they face – failure, fear, depression or addiction.
